About the author
John D. Seymour, more fully St John Drelincourt Seymour, was an Irish clergyman and folklorist whose early twentieth-century writing on Irish supernatural belief remains in print in reissued editions. His catalogue titles, Irish Witchcraft & Demonology and True Irish Ghost Stories: Haunted Houses, Banshees, Poltergeists, and Other Supernatural Phenomena, are studies compiling and analyzing Ireland's witchcraft trials and ghost lore, from cases such as that of Dame Alice Kyteler in the medieval period through accounts drawn from the country's oral tradition of banshees and haunted houses. Irish Witchcraft & Demonology, reissued by Lethe Press, is treated as a foundational reference on the subject, while True Irish Ghost Stories, from Dover Publications, gathers a wide range of Irish ghost narratives. Both books remain cited as early, carefully documented sources on Irish folklore and supernatural belief, valued for their historical research rather than for any personal practice on Seymour's part.
