About the author
Helen Schucman (1909-1981) was an American clinical and research psychologist at Columbia University who, working with her colleague William Thetford, produced the text that became A Course in Miracles. She described the material as received through an inner dictation process beginning in 1965, a process she and Thetford referred to as scribing rather than authorship in the conventional sense, with the completed manuscript finished in 1972. The catalogue lists editions of the Original Edition Text and the combined Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers, published by the Course in Miracles Society and drawn directly from that original manuscript with minimal editing. The Course presents itself as a self-study spiritual curriculum grounded in a nontraditional reading of Christian concepts such as forgiveness and miracles, and it has become one of the most widely circulated works of modern American spiritual literature since its 1976 publication.
