About the author
H. Byron Ballard is an Appalachian folk practitioner and writer based in Asheville, North Carolina, known for grounding contemporary witchcraft and pagan practice in the land and folkways of the Southern mountains. Her books, including Small Magics: Practical Secrets from an Appalachian Village Witch and A Feral Church: A Guided Journey to Find Magic, Kinship & the Goddess, both published by Llewellyn, present magic as a practical, everyday craft rather than an esoteric system, built from front-porch teaching and seasonal observance. Seasons of a Magical Life: A Pagan Path of Living (Weiser Books) extends this approach into a year-round pattern of earth-centered ritual drawn from her own forest farm. Across her catalogue, Ballard writes for readers who want an accessible, place-based entry into witchcraft and goddess spirituality, favoring lived experience and regional tradition over doctrine or lineage.
