About the author
G. I. Gurdjieff was a spiritual teacher and mystic, born in the Caucasus region in the nineteenth century, best known for developing the teaching known as the Fourth Way, which combined self-observation, movement work and esoteric ideas drawn from his travels through Central Asia and the Middle East. His major work, Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson, is an allegorical critique of human self-awareness told through a demon explaining humanity to his grandson. Gurdjieff's Early Talks 1914-1931 collects recorded and reconstructed transcriptions of his teaching sessions in cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Paris and New York, documenting how his ideas were transmitted directly to students before being formalised in print. His influence extended through students such as P. D. Ouspensky and later Fourth Way teachers, and his writing remains a reference point in Western esoteric and self-development literature.
