About the author
Don Jose Ruiz is a Toltec teacher writing within the lineage associated with the Ruiz family, known for popularizing Toltec wisdom teachings for a general audience. His books here, Wisdom of the Shamans and The Medicine Bag, both from Hierophant Publishing, present Toltec ideas through teaching stories and, in the latter case, through shamanic rituals and ceremonies intended for personal transformation and healing. Wisdom of the Shamans follows the tradition of passing down insight through narrative rather than direct instruction, while The Medicine Bag is framed as a practical guide to ceremony as a tool for change. Ruiz writes for readers already familiar with, or curious about, the broader Toltec and shamanic literature associated with his family's earlier work, offering accessible entry points into ritual practice rather than academic or comparative study of shamanism.
