About the author
Cesare Lombroso (1835-1909) was an Italian physician and criminologist, best known as the founder of the positivist school of criminology and for his theory of the "born criminal" set out in his influential and controversial work Criminal Man. Later in his career Lombroso turned to psychical research and spiritualism, investigating mediums and reported paranormal phenomena with the same empirical, case-based method he had applied to criminology. After Death--What?: Spiritistic Phenomena and Their Interpretation, reissued by Legare Street Press from the public-domain original, collects his findings and arguments on spiritist phenomena, presenting them as evidence he believed merited serious scientific consideration. The book is of interest today mainly to readers of the history of psychical research and to those studying how nineteenth-century scientists engaged with claims of the paranormal.
