About the author
Bernard Haisch is an astrophysicist who has written on the relationship between physics and questions of cosmic purpose. He worked for many years in solar and stellar astrophysics, including as a scientific editor of The Astrophysical Journal, and is known for his zero-point field theory of inertia developed with colleagues at the Calphysics Institute. In The God Theory: Universes, Zero-Point Fields, and What's Behind It All (Weiser Books, 2009), he argues against strict materialism and reductionism in physics, proposing an underlying field-based framework that leaves room for purpose and consciousness. The Purpose-Guided Universe: Believing in Einstein, Darwin, and God (New Page Books, 2012) extends this argument, contending that an underlying intelligence can be reconciled with the findings of both Einsteinian physics and Darwinian biology.
