About the author
Antonio Pagliarulo is the author of The Evil Eye: The History, Mystery, and Magic of the Quiet Curse (Weiser Books, 2023) and Queer Saints: A Radical Guide to Magic, Miracles, and Modern Intercession (Weiser Books, 2026). The Evil Eye traces the folklore and practice surrounding the evil eye across cultures, including its origins and traditional methods of avoiding, repelling, and removing it, drawing in part on Pagliarulo's own background among Italian immigrant practitioners. Queer Saints extends his focus on folk Catholicism and saint veneration, arguing for a broader understanding of sainthood, magic, and intercession that includes those historically excluded from it. Across both books Pagliarulo works at the intersection of folk magic and Catholic tradition, writing for readers interested in cultural and devotional practices rather than in doctrinal theology.
