About the author
Alix Wood is the author of a series of children's nonfiction books on reportedly haunted places, published by Gareth Stevens Publishing in 2016. Haunted Houses looks at well-known haunted residences, including the White House and China's Forbidden City; Haunted Battlefields covers sites such as Antietam, where visitors have reported hearing gunfire long after the battle; and Ghostly Prisons examines historical prisons associated with violent deaths, including the Tower of London. The books are written for young readers and present ghost lore as a way into history, pairing accounts of hauntings with background on the real events and places behind them. They belong to an educational series format rather than a practitioner or academic approach to the paranormal, and are suited to school and library audiences with an interest in history told through ghost stories.
