About the author
Alex Giannini writes short, illustrated collections of regional ghost stories for young readers, published by Kodiak Books. Titles including Horror in New Jersey, Horror in Ohio, Horror in Illinois, and Eerie Islands each gather four brief tales tied to a specific place, from haunted woods and old houses to isolated islands with their own local legends. The books run to about 24 pages and are built for reluctant or early readers, favoring quick, atmospheric storytelling over sustained narrative or historical detail. They belong to a series format that pairs American regional folklore with a horror-lite tone suitable for a middle-grade audience, and are catalogued under folk-magic for their basis in local ghost lore rather than as scholarly or adult horror fiction. Taken together, Giannini's books function as an introduction to regional ghost-story traditions for younger readers rather than a single sustained body of work.
