Came across this title in a footnote and had to track it down. You can tell why this work has endured.
A friend in my study group recommended this one. The ideas are old but land with surprising force today. Definitely recommend.
As someone who reads a lot in this field, I can be picky. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text. Recommended with reservations.
This edition finally does the material justice. A text you study rather than simply read. The historical context alone makes it worth the price. Well worth it.
I've read excerpts online before, but having the full text is different. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. Some sections stopped me cold in the best way. Glad I finally picked this up.
Bought this as a gift for my sister and ended up ordering a second copy for myself. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. It rewards patience more than any book I've bought this year. One of my better finds this year.
My book club chose this last month. The material is presented clearly and the structure makes it easy to revisit key passages. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. Shipping was quick too.
