About the author
William Stainton Moses was a nineteenth-century Church of England clergyman who became one of the best-known mediums of the British spiritualist movement. His principal work, Spirit Teachings, was produced through automatic writing and first published in 1883 under the guidance of a spirit he called Imperator; it remains one of the most frequently reprinted texts of the spiritualist tradition. A companion volume, Higher Aspects of Spiritualism, sets out his broader case for spirit communication as a serious subject of inquiry rather than mere entertainment. Moses was also active in London's spiritualist press and psychical research circles during the 1870s and 1880s. The editions listed here, from publishers including Hansebooks, Lulu.com, and Legare Street Press, are modern reprints of his original texts, preserving his writing largely as it first appeared in the Victorian spiritualist periodicals where it was serialized.
