About the author
Shyam Sundar Goswami (1891-1978) was a Bengali yoga teacher and scholar who later worked in Scandinavia, where he is credited with helping establish organized yoga instruction there. His two books, published by Inner Traditions International, are detailed technical treatments of Hatha yoga practice. Advanced Hatha Yoga: Classic Methods of Physical Education and Concentration (2012) sets out advanced postures and exercise sequences intended to build strength, stamina, and posture as groundwork for further spiritual practice. Layayoga: The Definitive Guide to the Chakras and Kundalini, originally published in 1999, is a comprehensive study of chakra meditation and the yogic system of layayoga, illustrated with full-color plates of each chakra and regarded by many practitioners as one of the more thorough treatments of the subject available in English. Goswami's books are aimed at serious, experienced practitioners rather than beginners.
