About the author
Roger Calverley created the Ancient Mysteries Tarot Deck and its companion guidebook, published by Lotus Press. The deck links tarot imagery to the ancient Mystery Schools of Egypt, Greece, Mesopotamia, and India, basing the Major Arcana on sacred temple art and using megaliths, stone temples, and sacred fountains to depict the four elements. The accompanying book situates tarot within this older tradition, replacing the conventional suits of Pentacles, Cups, Swords, and Wands with Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, and explains the historical and symbolic reasoning behind the deck's imagery. Together the two volumes present tarot less as a system that originated with playing cards than as a survival of ancient temple-based mystery teachings, aimed at readers and practitioners already familiar with tarot who are interested in its claimed esoteric and archaeological roots.
