About the author
Robert Hilland is a retired FBI agent and the author, with a co-writer, of Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent's Search for Hope and Justice, published by St. Martin's Essentials. The book recounts Hilland's decision, in 1998, to consult a well-known psychic while working a difficult case, and follows the twenty-five-year span of investigative work that grew out of that decision. It is framed as a true-crime memoir told from inside law enforcement, weighing the practical results of the collaboration against the skepticism Hilland describes bringing to it initially. The book was named a New York Times bestseller and a Library Journal Best Book of 2025. It is aimed at readers of true crime and law-enforcement memoir who are also curious about cases where conventional investigation intersected with claims of psychic assistance.
