About the author
Karen Laven is the author of Cincinnati Ghosts and Dayton Ghosts, both regional guides to reputedly haunted locations published by Schiffer Publishing. Cincinnati Ghosts covers sites across the Ohio-Indiana-Kentucky tri-state area, including a supposedly haunted castle in Loveland and the abandoned Hayswood Hospital, while Dayton Ghosts focuses on Ohio's Dayton area, among them the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum and local haunted dining spots. Both books mix local history with ghost-lore storytelling, aimed at readers interested in regional hauntings and armchair or in-person ghost tourism rather than at parapsychological research. No publication years are given for either title. As with much writing in this genre, the books present their accounts as folklore and local legend to be explored rather than as documented paranormal evidence, and no further biographical information about Laven is available from the listings.

💬 What our editors say about Karen Laven's books
“While this guide effectively maps out locations where the veil between worlds grows thin, it is strictly a collection of local legends rather than rigorous academic research or investigative journalism. It will not suit readers…”

“This volume succeeds as a vivid map for spiritualists interested in Dayton’s specific haunting geography, particularly those drawn to aviation-themed specters. However, it may disappoint readers seeking rigorous academic analysis…”
