About the author
Jim Magnuson writes practical, revised guides on rock and mineral collecting for Adventure Publications. Agate Hunting Made Easy focuses specifically on finding Lake Superior agates, offering field strategies for locating these prized stones along the Great Lakes shoreline despite their scarcity. From Rough Stones to Wow covers the lapidary process more broadly, walking beginners through cutting, polishing and shaping raw rocks and minerals into finished gemstones without requiring expensive equipment or prior experience. Both books are instructional rather than narrative, aimed at hobbyist rockhounds and collectors who want hands-on, step-by-step guidance rather than a general survey of geology or mineralogy. Magnuson's focus throughout is practical and regional in the case of the agate title, oriented toward readers actually going out to search for and work with stones rather than toward the metaphysical or energy-work uses sometimes associated with crystals.
