About the author
Jim B. Tucker is a psychiatrist who was affiliated with the University of Virginia's Division of Perceptual Studies, where he continued and expanded research into children's reported memories of past lives that was begun by his colleague Ian Stevenson. His books, Life Before Life, Return to Life, and the combined edition Before, present case studies drawn from thousands of documented accounts collected at the university, examining children who describe detailed memories seemingly tied to a previous person's life. Return to Life was a New York Times bestseller. Tucker's work is presented as first-person research reporting rather than advocacy, describing the methodology of these investigations alongside individual cases. Published by St. Martin's Press imprints between 2008 and 2021, his books are aimed at readers interested in reincarnation research as a documented, if contested, area of academic inquiry rather than at general spiritual or self-help audiences.
