About the author
Jessica Hundley is a writer and editor known for her work on Taschen's Library of Esoterica series, which she conceives, writes and edits alongside contributing artists and researchers. Her volumes, including Tarot, Witchcraft, Plant Magick, Sacred Sites and Spirit Worlds, trace the visual and cultural history of esoteric traditions from ancient ritual to contemporary practice, pairing narrative text with archival and artist imagery. Hundley has also written on film and music history, but the Esoterica books, published between 2020 and 2025, form the core of her presence in this catalogue. Each volume surveys a distinct theme, tarot's five-century iconography, plant lore and ritual, sacred architecture, or beliefs about death and the afterlife, drawing on sources from many cultures rather than a single tradition. The series is aimed at readers interested in the art history and anthropology of esoteric practice as much as at practitioners, and Hundley's role is chiefly curatorial, organizing disparate visual and textual material into a coherent volume.
