About the author
Irene McGarvie is the author of two books on traditional divination methods, both published by Nixon-Carre Ltd. "Messages in Your Tea Cup: Learn to Read Tea Leaves" (2009) introduces tasseography, the practice of reading patterns left by tea leaves in a cup, tracing its historical popularity as a way of seeking guidance with simple, everyday materials. "Mirror Gazing" (2010) covers scrying, presenting it as a method some practitioners use to reflect on the past, consider the present and explore the future, as well as to explore personal creativity. Both books are written as practical, how-to introductions rather than academic or historical studies, aimed at readers new to divination who want a low-cost, accessible practice to try using tools already found around the house, such as tea leaves and mirrors.
