About the author
Ea Wallis Budge refers to Sir E. A. Wallis Budge (1857-1934), the British Egyptologist and philologist who served as keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian antiquities at the British Museum. Budge conducted excavations and acquisitions across Egypt and the Sudan and produced translations of numerous ancient Egyptian, Assyrian, and Ethiopian texts, many still in print. His best-known work, The Egyptian Book of the Dead: Wisdom of the Ancient Papyrus of Ani, remains one of the most widely reprinted English translations of the Egyptian funerary text, appearing in the catalogue here in multiple modern gift and deluxe editions from Sirius Entertainment, including gilded pocket and slipcase versions. Though later scholarship has revised aspects of his translations, Budge's Book of the Dead introduced generations of English-language readers to ancient Egyptian funerary religion and remains a standard reference point for the subject.
