About the author
D.W. Pasulka is a scholar of religious studies known for her books examining belief in UFOs and nonhuman intelligence as a contemporary religious phenomenon. Her first book in this area, American Cosmic: UFOs, Religion, Technology (Oxford University Press, 2019), examines the belief system around extraterrestrial life in the United States, where surveys have found levels of belief rivaling belief in God, and traces the informal networks of scientists, technologists, and believers that sustain it. Encounters: Experiences with Nonhuman Intelligences (St. Martin's Essentials, 2023) gathers firsthand accounts of contact experiences and was discussed publicly on The Joe Rogan Experience. Her book The Others: UFOs, AI, and the Secret Forces Guiding Human Destiny (St. Martin's Essentials) extends the project to consider alleged contact with nonhuman intelligences, described in both religious and UFO/UAP terms, alongside the rise of artificial intelligence. Pasulka writes as an academic observer of these belief systems rather than as an advocate for any particular explanation.
