About the author
Budd Hopkins was an American artist and one of the most influential early researchers into claimed UFO abduction experiences, work he pursued alongside a career as an abstract painter. His 1981 book Missing Time: A Documented Study of UFO Abductions was among the first sustained investigations of the phenomenon and introduced the term "missing time" into the vocabulary of UFO research; it was reissued by August Night Press in 2021. Intruders: The Incredible Visitations at Copley Woods, first published in 1987 and a New York Times bestseller, built on that earlier work through an extended case study, developing his method of using hypnosis to recover accounts of alleged abduction experiences from witnesses. Hopkins, who died in 2011, remained a central and often-cited figure in abduction research for three decades, and his case-study approach shaped much of the popular and investigative writing on the subject that followed.
