About the author

Barbara Smith is a prolific author of regional ghost-story collections published by Ghost House Books, known for gathering and retelling reputedly true accounts of hauntings across North America. Her books here include "Supernatural Christmas Ghost Stories" (2015), which collects seasonal tales of encounters with the departed, "Ghost Stories of the Sea," focused on maritime hauntings and shipwreck lore, and "Haunted Theaters," about spirits said to linger in North American playhouses. Smith's approach favors narrative retelling of collected local stories over analysis or theory, in the tradition of popular regional ghost-story writing. Her books suit readers who enjoy folklore-style storytelling tied to specific settings, the sea, the stage, the holiday season, rather than academic or investigative treatments of the paranormal. They sit in the spiritualism and folk-magic sections of the catalogue.
