About the author
Andrew Jackson Davis was an American clairvoyant and writer known as the 'Poughkeepsie Seer,' a foundational figure in the nineteenth-century Spiritualist movement. Writing in trance states, he produced a large body of work describing the structure of the spirit world, healing, and the afterlife, of which The Great Harmonia is among his best known, setting out a philosophical vision of the natural, spiritual, and celestial universe. The Diakka, and Their Earthly Victims addresses what he described as mischievous or deceptive spirits encountered in mediumship. Death and the Afterlife collects lectures, first delivered in 1865, describing the 'Summerland' and its planes of existence. Davis's writings, still reprinted today by publishers including Legare Street Press and Square Circles Publishing, remain primary texts for the history of American Spiritualism and its claims about communication with the dead.
